A Boeing passenger plane’s wing flap detached mid-flight and fell into a residential area in the United States.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration confirmed on July 2 that a portion of the left-wing flap from a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737-900ER passenger plane detached during flight and was later found in a residential area’s driveway. It is understood that such flaps are crucial for lift and speed control during landing.
Delta Air Lines flight 3247 departed from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia on the evening of July 1st and landed at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina in the early hours of July 2nd. The flight carried 109 passengers and 6 crew members.
This Boeing passenger aircraft is approximately 12 years old. The aircraft landed safely, and there were no casualties among the passengers or crew. There are also no reports of casualties or property damage on the ground. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the incident.
