South Korean President Lee Jae-myung stated on March 3rd that he would work towards improving South Korea-China relations as soon as possible.
On the morning of the 3rd, a month after his inauguration, President Lee Jae-myung held a press conference at the Blue House. President Lee stated that he would pursue‘pragmatic diplomacy’centered on national interests, based on a strong South Korea- alliance, close South Korea–Japan cooperation, and the swift improvement of relations with China and Russia, to safeguard peace and the lives of the people.
Lee Jae-myung also stated that while strengthening national defense, he would restart the stalled inter-Korean communication channels to open a path toward peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and cooperation.
On June 3, Lee Jae-myung was elected the 21st President of South Korea in the presidential election, securing 49.42% of the vote. He officially commenced his presidential term on June 4.
