The United States Coast Guard announced on the 28th that a simple migrant ship capsized in the waters west of Puerto Rico in the United States territorial acquisitions. Two people were killed and at least 40 were rescued, with many missing.
The Coast Guard said the immigrant ship was carrying about 60 people. The ship capsized on the evening of the 27th, local time, until noon on the 28th, when a passing ship discovered survivors and notified the relevant authorities.
The Coast Guard said there was a conflict inside the migrant ship before it capsized, resulting in the crew jumping into the water without life jackets. The nationality or origin of the crew is not yet clear. Rescue operations are still ongoing.
For a long time, migrants from different countries have been venturing across the Strait of Mona from Hispaniola to Puerto Rico and other islands, and accidents have occurred when ships capsized at sea.
