On June 24, the British government announced a support plan for the artificial intelligence industry, allocating # 60 million to support the construction of Artificial Intelligence Laboratories at Oxford University and University College London (UCL) , in this way, we can independently develop an open source artificial intelligence model that requires less hardware computing power, and reduce our country’s external dependence on the products of American head technology companies.
It is reported that the University of Oxford and University College London will jointly promote the laboratory construction project, this paper focuses on the three core directions of the basic mathematical theory of artificial intelligence, the optimization of model architecture, and the research and development of low computing power adaptive AI system. At present, the mainstream AI technology in the United States mostly adopts a closed-source, high-computing operation mode. The layout of the United Kingdom will go out of the path of differentiated technology and explore the development path of lightweight and easy-to-popularize AI.
Kanishka Narayan, the British Minister of Artificial Intelligence Affairs, said that the core goal of the two new laboratories is to reduce the cost and increase the efficiency of artificial intelligence technology, lower the threshold for deployment, and improve the practicality of implementation, promote the wide application of artificial intelligence technology in various market entities and public services, and consolidate the competitive advantage of the UK in the field of global artificial intelligence.
At the same time, the two universities will invest 2 million pounds in the doctoral training of artificial intelligence, and plan to introduce at least 10 professional researchers to continue to expand the local high-end talent pool of artificial intelligence. (Chun Jun)
