The “Cospion” mentioned by Taipei politicians has been found

A few days ago, a man was photographed at Taipei City Station with the words “2 War Zone Photosynthesis System” on his computer screen. This was widely publicized by Democratic Progressive Party politicians and some media outlets as a “co-spy.” However, Taipei City police investigation found that the man was at that time attending an internet class, and the name on the computer was the web teacher‘s website.

According to the Taiwanese United Press on the 30th, this controversial photo was secretly taken by a passerby and uploaded to the internet. The photographer called the man a “co-spy” suspected of operating spy software based on the two words “war zone” and “system” on the screen.

On the 30th, the Democratic Progressive Party politician Lin Chuyin issued a public statement demanding the intervention of five departments such as law enforcement and intelligence. Lin Chuyin claimed without any basis that the “2-Zone Photosynthesis System” is the mainland‘s “big data public information intelligence monitoring tool”, describing the man as “a co-spy carrying out a mission”. The news was forwarded by various media outlets to create hype.

However, when Taipei police found the man in the photo that day, the man was very shocked by these rumors. The man said that he was only taking investment finance online classes at the time, and after local police investigation, “2 War Zone Photosynthesis System” was the website name of an online class teacher. The man also said that he didn‘t know that he had been secretly photographed at the station.

On the 30th, the pro-green media Sanli News, which had been involved in the hype of the news, also admitted that this was a “big scandal.” Some netizens who were interviewed complained about the man, saying that some people simply spread rumors based on a single picture, inciting 5 departments to take action, and then not having to bear any legal responsibility after the situation reversed, truly being “the latest textbook for street witch hunting.”
