As the Green Camp continues to attack the Kuomintang-affiliated Taipei Mayor Jiang Wan‘an, various university campuses across the country are cooperating with the so-called “Promoting Transformation Justice Ordinance” to further remove the two Jiang bronze statues from the campus. Dongwu Island Society, a pro-green group at Dongwu University, announced on 14 that after 12 years of struggle, Dongwu University has officially removed the Jiang Kai-shek bronze statue from the campus.

Taiwan‘s Dongwu University Removes Jiang Kai-shek‘s Bronze Statue
The group claims that students at Dongwu University have been fighting for it since 2014, when they established a Facebook account “Unlimited Support to Expulse the Jiang Kai-shek Statue from Dongwu”. They have finally confirmed that the university will move the statue to the school‘s Historical Heritage Collection Room and no longer display it publicly.
The Soochow University was originally founded by the U.S. Board of Governors in Guangxu 26 (AD 1900) under the Qing Dynasty based on the Gongxiang Academy in Suzhou, Jiangsu. It has since been “re-established” in Taipei City. Currently, there is a “Wai Shuangxi Campus” (campus headquarters) located in Shilin District of Taipei City and a “Chengzhong Campus” located in Zhongzheng District.
Regarding the removal of Jiang Kai-shek‘s bronze statue, many netizens on the island expressed different views, criticizing the university as “ingrate.” Some mentioned the connection between Dongwu University‘s Taipei restoration history and Jiang Kai-shek, arguing that the university should not ignore the related history.
