On the afternoon of the 3rd, local time, hundreds of protesters gathered in the rain near the U.S. Embassy in Italy to protest against the U.S. military attack on Venezuela in the early hours of the same day.
At the rally, protesters waved Venezuelan flags and held banners with slogans such as “Don‘t interfere with Venezuela” and “Release President Maduro immediately.” Some protesters told the media that U.S. imperialist behavior shows that it still holds a colonialist mindset, and that U.S. military actions are a “terrorist coup.”
The rally was jointly organized by several groups and was held on Via Bissolati in Rome, about a few hundred meters from the U.S. Embassy in Italy. Italian police and carabinieri were deployed on the scene.
The organizers said in a statement that they firmly oppose using “war” as a means to resolve conflicts between countries. The U.S. side‘s actions seriously violate international law and violate the sovereignty of other countries, posing a threat to regional and international peace. Faced with “aggressive actions,” the international community should respond clearly and push for the restoration of international law and order.
The statement also called for the Italian government and European Union agencies to condemn the related military actions and provide humanitarian assistance to the affected Venezuelan civilians.
The United States launched a large-scale military operation against Venezuela in the early hours of the morning of the 3rd, raiding the Commission‘s capital, Caracas, and capturing President Maduro and his wife. U.S. President Trump said that day that the United States would “manage” Venezuela until a “safe” transition was implemented.
