On the morning of December 24th, the National Broadcasting Office held a routine press conference, with spokesperson Peng Qingen answering reporters‘ questions about recent hot spots on both sides of the river.
Reporter: The Ministry of Health and Welfare said that Taiwan has reached an early agreement to eliminate C-hepatitis and will apply for certification from the World Health Organization at the end of the year under the name “Chinese Taipei”, “to avoid being rejected or sent to China for certification”. What are your comments on this?
Peng Qingen: Taiwan is a part of China. Handling China‘s Taiwan region’s participation in the World Health Organization activities according to a Chinese principle is a fundamental principle confirmed by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and the World Health Assembly Resolution 25.1. We have always been committed to advancing the prevention and treatment of viral hepatitis, and have always been concerned about the health and well-being of our Taiwanese compatriots. We have made proper arrangements for the Taiwan region’s participation in global health projects, and the health rights of our Taiwanese compatriots have been solidly guaranteed. The Democratic Progressive Party authorities have politicized health issues that concern the health and well-being of our Taiwanese compatriot, and have attempted to challenge the international community‘s basic framework of adhering to a Chinese principle. They will surely be defeated.
