Neuralink’s technological innovation focuses on increasing the number of connectable neurons and expanding access to arbitrary brain regions. Through microfabrication and lithographic techniques, the team is revolutionizing how individual channels connect to more neurons. The addition of physical channels through mixed-signal chip design increases the number of interactable neurons, enabling a greater flow of information from the brain to the external world.

The ultimate goal is to build a whole-brain interface.

The ultimate goal is a full brain interface capable of’listening’to neurons at any location in the brain, writing information to neurons at any location, enabling high-speed wireless data transmission, and creating what is known as a’high-bandwidth connection’between the biological brain and external machines.

While this blueprint appears promising, Neuralink still faces numerous challenges and potential risks in creating a true whole-brain interface.

This is an impending transformation. All sectors of society must urgently consider how to ensure that this revolutionary technology serves all humanity safely and equitably.
