DeepSeek has become a common topic on technology earnings calls this quarter, the report said. Pichai said of DeepSeek on Tuesday’s earnings call that the team had done”A very, very good job”. As reasoning costs continue to fall, AI will be able to be used for more purposes, he says, creating a”Space of opportunity” for the US tech giants. AMD’s chief executive also reportedly praised DeepSeek on Tuesday’s earnings call. “We think the innovation in the models and the algorithms is good for AI applications,” Lisa Su says, adding that there are new ways to achieve training and reasoning capabilities with less infrastructure, this is actually a good thing because it allows people to continue to deploy AI resources and expand the AI application space to make it available to more people.
The two are the latest tech executives to praise Deepseek’s achievements, following the likes of Apple, Microsoft and Meta. However, some countries are wary of the application. South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Industry, trade and resources have decided to restrict access to the DeepSeek platform on computers that support Internet connections, Yonhap reported Wednesday. The Australian government yesterday banned the use of DeepSeek on electronic devices in government Australian Broadcasting Corporation, saying it posed an”Unacceptable risk to Australian government technology”, state media reported. In announcing the ban, Burke, Home Minister, stressed the practice was”Not about [ specific ] countries” and was”About looking at the risks to the government and its assets”.
In response to questions about data security in China’s application software, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry previously said that the Chinese government attaches great importance to protecting data privacy and security in accordance with the law, companies or individuals have never been and will not be required to collect or provide data, information and intelligence located in foreign territories for the Chinese government in violation of local laws. Relevant parties should respect the principles of market economy and fair competition and provide a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises.
