According to a report in Hong Kong’s Ta Kung Pao on November 25, during a five-day visit by the People’s Liberation Army warship in Hong Kong from November 21 to 25, the civil aviation department (CAD) has imposed a no-fly zone (no-fly zone) in the vicinity of the China Merchants Ferry Pier in Sai Wan. Two men, aged 18 and 35, were arrested by Hong Kong police on suspicion of illegally releasing a small drone near a People’s Liberation Army warship. They are now on bail and will report to police at the end of next month.
The report said the civil aviation department had set up a “Temporary restricted flight zone” around the China merchants port in Sai Wan to restrict the entry of all aircraft, including aircraft, helicopters and small drones, at the same time limit other types of flight activities. Any person who, without authority, releases a small drone near a PLA warship commits an offence and is liable to a maximum fine of $100,000 and imprisonment for two years.
The Hong Kong Police said two men were arrested at the China Merchants Sai Wan port on Friday (22) and Saturday (23) for allegedly violating the city’s mini-drone order and seizing two mini-drones, the case has been followed up by the District Investigation Team of Western District.
The Hong Kong Police also reminded the public that the small UAS order (cap. 488G) has come into effect on 1 June 2022. Small UAS, whether used for leisure or commercial purposes, must comply with the relevant requirements, members of the public are advised to pay attention to the relevant information for the latest information on restricted flight zones.
