The judge in charge of the trial of president-elect Donald Trump’s alleged interference in the 2020 election dismissed the case on the same day.

The Jack Smith earlier in the day asked the judge to dismiss the case, citing decades of DOJ policy that the president should not face criminal prosecution.

Last year, the Jack Smith filed four criminal charges against Donald Trump for allegedly overturning the 2020 presidential election results. Donald Trump pleaded not guilty.

On July 1, the Supreme Court ruled that Donald Trump enjoyed a degree of immunity from criminal prosecution in the case of alleged interference in the 2020 election. Cases against Trump could be dropped after his election victory this month.

Donald Trump is the first former president to face criminal charges. He has been involved in four criminal cases, a total of 91 criminal charges. Two of the cases were brought by Jack Smith teams. Donald Trump had said he would fire Smith as soon as he returned to office.
