Mcdonald’s officials said Oct. 24 that the source of the E. coli contamination may be fresh onions from a california-based produce company. Meanwhile, other fast-food restaurants, including Pizza Hut, KFC and Burger King, have removed onions from some menus.

A california-based Taylor Farms Product Company this week issued a recall warning that its peeled, whole, yellow onions may have been contaminated with E. coli, the food company said Tuesday.

In the United States, 49 people suffered from E. coli contamination of mcdonald’s burgers, including one death and 10 hospitalizations. The CDC says there may be more than 49 people infected.
