On the 4th of this month, a U. S. Marine stationed in Japan was arrested on suspicion of sexual harassment. The suspect, who denied charges of “Violating the local harassment prevention ordinance” during a police investigation, was reportedly handed over to the Naha District Public Prosecutors Office in Okinawa Prefecture and released.

On the 17th of this month, Naha District Public Prosecutors Office decided not to prosecute him, but did not disclose the reasons for not prosecuting.

At the end of June, Japanese media exposed two cases of US troops in Japan assaulting women on Okinawa Prefecture in December and May, but the Japanese government did not release the relevant information and did not inform the Japanese government in a timely manner. On July 3, Lin Fangzheng, a Chief Cabinet Secretary, said that in addition to the two cases, three similar cases had not been made public since last year.
