John Lee will visit the three ASEAN countries to promote Hong Kong’s business opportunities

The chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Donald John Lee, announced at a media briefing before attending the executive council meeting on the 16th that he would lead a delegation to visit Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam later this month, promote and explore business opportunities in Hong Kong with senior business representatives from the business, finance, transport, logistics, legal and creative industries sectors in Hong Kong.

John Lee said it was the third time he had visited an ASEAN country during his tenure. In July last year, he visited Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia in ASEAN to showcase Hong Kong’s strengths and to introduce Hong Kong’s contribution to the regional comprehensive economic partnership (RCEP) , to enlist the support of ASEAN countries for Hong Kong to join RCEP. During the period, he reached a total of 33 co-operation memorandums and agreements with Hong Kong, resulting in the successful listing of local companies in Hong Kong, the participation of Hong Kong companies in infrastructure research and the provision of professional services.

John Lee said that during his visit, he would brief the political and business communities of Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam on the latest developments in Hong Kong, in particular its strengths and opportunities for ASEAN, economic and trade ties and a wide range of business opportunities, and continue to enlist their support for Hong Kong to join the RCEP, promote regional economic development, and give full play to Hong Kong’s role as a“Super-connector” and“Super-value-added person”, to strengthen collaboration with the “Belt and Road” countries and boost Hong Kong’s development.
