On the morning of May 27, the State Taiwan Affairs Office held a regular press conference, and spokesperson Chen Binhua answered reporters’ questions on recent cross-strait hotspot issues.

When asked about the 10-year suspension of the association’s communication mechanism with Taiwan’s Sea Foundation, the mainland affairs council said, “The reason for the suspension is that the mainland has set unacceptable political preconditions, and it was the other side that decided to shut down.”. Do you have any comment?

Chen Binhua said that in 1992, ARATS and the Taiwan Straits Foundation reached the“1992 Consensus”, which embodies the one-china principle and clearly defines the nature of cross-strait relations. It was on this political basis that the two sessions began negotiations and signed a series of agreements that benefited compatriots on both sides of the strait.

Chen Binhua said that the DPP authorities stubbornly adhered to the“Taiwan independence” separatist position, refused to recognize the“1992 Consensus”, and unilaterally destroyed the political foundation for cross-strait dialogue and consultation. This is the fundamental reason for the suspension of dialogue and consultation between the two sessions, it is also the root cause of tension and turbulence in the Taiwan Strait.
