Blue and white parties 2026 cooperation agreement passed, Zheng Liwen: seeking maximum victory target

 

Taiwan’s 2026 county and city mayoral elections are approaching, and the two parties discussed an election cooperation agreement on the morning of March 18, Chinanews.com and China Central News Agency reported on March 19. On the same day, the Kuomintang passed the cooperation agreement between the blue and white parties. Kuomintang chairman Zheng Liwen said that he hoped that the cooperation between the blue and white parties could successfully win the 2026 election, and lay an indestructible foundation for future cooperation in seeking party succession in 2028.

According to the report, Zheng Liwen said at the standing committee meeting on the 18th that political parties should never just fight to the death, and hope to return to rational dialogue and even open the door to cooperation. This cooperation, of course, is based on the well-being of the people and on policies that are beneficial to Taiwan’s development. Therefore, combining the long-term concerns of the two parties, important strengths, and complementarities, to completely take care of the Taiwanese people without dead ends. Blue-white cooperation, she said, must open the door and take the road to the biggest goal of winning the election.

Zheng said she hoped that the blue-white cooperation would succeed in winning the 2026 election and lay an Indestructible Foundation for future cooperation in seeking party succession in 2028.

After the meeting, yin nai-ching, chairman of the Cultural Communications Commission, also reported that Zheng Liwen made a statement after the adoption of the cooperation agreement. “This is a historic day for the development of Taiwan’s party politics, and the blue-white cooperation has taken an important step forward.”

According to a report by Taiwan’s“Central News Agency,” the KMT held a standing committee meeting on the afternoon of the 18th and passed the“Cooperation agreement between the KMT and the People’s Party on joint governance and local elections in 2026.” The contents include“Shared vision”, “County and city mayor nomination mechanism”, “Public Opinion Survey and integration mode”, “Joint auxiliary election mechanism”, “Post-election cooperative governance” and so on.

In the“County and city mayor nomination cooperation mechanism”, the two sides agreed to the 2026 local civil service election, “First nomination, then integration, and jointly recommend a person” approach to county and city mayors cooperation. When the candidates for county and city mayors are integrated, if it is necessary to decide the candidates by public opinion survey, the two sides agree to jointly entrust a credible poll organization, and the poll question type should be compared with the main opponent. As for the“Joint subsidiary election mechanism”, the two sides agreed to establish a“Bipartisan consultation working group”, consisting of three representatives from each party, to serve as a mechanism for communication and coordination between the two parties, and set up a“Blue and white joint campaign group” to plan the campaign.
