
The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region announced on December 3 that in order to further safeguard the safety of construction sites, all buildings undergoing major maintenance works, including public housing, private residential and government buildings, if the external wall with shed net, shall immediately stop the external wall construction, and in three working days (December 4-6) to complete the shed net frame down work.
The relevant departments of the SAR government will immediately contact the project contractors to supervise the execution of the removal request. If the individual project can not be completed on schedule due to special reasons, it should be reported to the competent department in advance, and after examination and verification, it can be accommodated.
In addition, the buildings department is expected to issue new operational guidelines next week requiring all shed net materials to be sampled on site and inspected by designated testing organisations before they can be re-installed for use. (head office correspondents, Zhou Weiqi and Wei Kefeng)
