“Officer, are you wearing pants?” Detroit police apologized after a U. S. police officer attended an online hearing in his underwear and shirt

According to ABC and other media reported on the 30th local time, the United States Detroit Police 27 attended the online court hearing wearing only a police shirt, underwear to appear on camera, causing the judge surprised. According to the report, the officer in question is Matthew Jackson. At an online court hearing in the 36th District Court in Michigan, Jackson was asked to register his appearance when he was shown on a webcam wearing a police shirt and a badge but only underwear, no pants. The judge asked, “Officer, are you wearing pants?” Jackson replied, “No, sir,” and Jackson then raised the camera to reveal only the area above his waist. The judge then turned to the accused and resumed the trial.

According to the website of the 36th District Court of Michigan, the court advised the court to“Wear casual business attire,” the report said, shorts, shorts, sleeveless shirts and other clothing not suitable for court or other professional occasions are prohibited.

The Detroit police said they were investigating the incident and would remind officers of court etiquette and dress code, the report said. “The Detroit Police Department requires officers to appear in court with an appropriate and professional appearance,” the Detroit police chief said in a statement. The conduct of the police officers involved does not represent the professional standard of the Bureau. We will take appropriate measures to maintain public trust and ensure the efficient operation of the Bureau. We would like to extend our sincere apologies to the judges, the court staff and all those present at the time of the incident.”
