A spokesman for the Office of National Security (Ossa) said on October 24 that the election of the eighth Legislative Council (Legco) in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) was officially launched, opening a new chapter of high-quality democracy in Hong Kong. The practice of the seventh legco has proved that the new electoral system is a good one that conforms to the principle of “One Country, Two Systems” and the reality of Hong Kong. However, some external forces, anti-chinese forces and those with ulterior motives, who are still determined to disrupt the election, have attempted to disrupt the election and plunge Hong Kong back into chaos.
The spokesman pointed out that the Legco election is related to Hong Kong’s constitutional order and democratic development, as well as the regime building and political stability of the HKSAR, as well as the good governance and national security of the HKSAR. We will never allow any act that undermines the election and endangers national sovereignty, security and development interests; we will never allow any act that interferes with the Legislative Council election and disrupts the Constitutional Order of the HKSAR; We will not allow any electoral chaos that impedes the speedy progress of Hong Kong’s transition from government to prosperity.
The spokesman stressed that we will continue to firmly support the strong implementation of the National Security Law of Hong Kong, the maintenance of National Security Ordinance and its subsidiary legislation to Safeguard National Security in the HKSAR, to crack down resolutely and without mercy and in accordance with the law on any interference with or disruption of the electoral order, to punish resolutely and severely any act or activity endangering national security in accordance with the law, and to firmly and forcefully curb any interference by outside forces, to ensure that elections are fair, fair, honest, safe and orderly, and to safeguard the rule and prosperity of Hong Kong.
