A black student was found hanging from a tree at a US university

A 21-year-old black student was found hanging from a tree on the campus of Delta University in Mississippi Sunday, ABC and the Associated Press reported. School officials said they were actively investigating the incident, and Ennis, the school’s president, admitted it had raised tensions on campus and stirred up historical memories of racist violence in the state.

Ennis said Monday at a news conference that the incident had caused “Emotional turmoil” in the state and across the country, and that schools had been threatened after Rieder’s death and were closed on Monday.

The Bolivar County Coroner’s office said in a statement Friday that, “Based on preliminary examination, we can confirm that the deceased did not have any lacerations, contusions, compound fractures, fractures or injuries consistent with the attack,” the name calling said

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Jackson, Mississippi, said in a statement Thursday that it was aware of the incident at Delta University, and“Is in regular contact with the local government”. “If information about possible federal violations is uncovered during a local investigation, the FBI is prepared to intervene,” the office said.

Also speaking at a news conference, Delta University’s Regional Police Chief, Michael Rieder, said an active investigation into Reid’s death was continuing and that his body had been taken to the Mississippi Medical Examiner’s office, a full autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, and the results are expected within 24 to 48 hours.
