Taiwanese media: KO Wen-je nodded and agreed to let his wife, Peggy Chen, handle the bail process

 

Ko Wen-je T?mori, former chairman of the Taiwan Democratic Party, was jailed for a year on charges of embezzlement, bribery, profit-seeking and money-laundering, a Taipei District Court ruled Friday that Ko Wen-je should post 70 million yuan (t $t $) in bail. After a weekend of reflection, the lawyer met with Ko Wen-je today (August 8) and said that after explaining to KO Wen-je the source of funding, KO Wen-je nodded and agreed to his wife Peggy Chen to handle the follow-up bail process.

The Taiwanese media recalled that in this case, the prosecutor applied to detain Ko Wen-je in connection with the Beijing Huacheng fraud case. On September 2, the Taipei District Court 2024 that KE’s “Involvement in the case is not significant” and ruled that “He should be remanded without bail.”, after the prosecution successfully protested, the Taipei District Court ruled that detention was prohibited. After the Taipei District Attorney’s Office 2024 KO Wen-je and others on December 26 on charges of corruption and other crimes, the Taipei District Court ruled that Ko Wen-je should be released on bail of 30 million yuan. However, after the prosecution protested, the Taipei District Court re-ruled that, ko Wen-je was released on bail of $70m and placed under electronic anklet surveillance. He was restricted from living, leaving the country and going to sea. He was also denied access to co-defendants and witnesses, but was later remanded into KO Wen-je’s custody. Only Ko Wen-je and Taipei City Councilor Ying hsiao-wei remain in custody until October 1, when both applied for bail. After their arraignment on September 4, the Taipei District Court, of the Inland Revenue Department.

Earlier on the 8th, the Associated Press reported that KO Wen-je had said that he would have to think about it for another two days before deciding whether to post bail. However, his wife, Peggy Chen, announced on the 7th that KO Wen-je had almost certainly agreed to post bail, and the KE family has already raised the full amount of insurance. Ko Wen-je’s legal team appeared outside the detention center at about 8:30 am on the 8th. After entering the detention center, they met with KO Wen-je for a lawyer and made a final confirmation.
