An exhibition of photos, paintings and historical materials to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Second Sino-Japanese War and the restoration of Taiwan opened today at the Wynn Macau Hotel

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Second Sino-Japanese War victory and Taiwan’s recovery, the “Opening Ceremony of the seminar to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Second Sino-Japanese War and the restoration of Nanjing” was co-organised by the Macao Association for the promotion of Chinese culture, the Second Sino-Japanese War History Institute, the cross-strait Youth Cultural Exchange Centre, the Global Association for the development of Chinese cultural industries, the Taiwan Restoration Memorial Association, the Taiwan-taiwan Association, the fujian-taiwan Regional Research Centre of the Fujian Normal University, the Chinese Art Academy and the Wynn Care Foundation”, the event was held in Wynn Macau on the morning of 20 August 2025. The event aims to commemorate the historical events of the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait participating in the anti-japanese War, guide the youth on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to correctly understand the common history of China, and pay tribute to the ancestors on both sides of the Taiwan Strait who fought side by side in the anti-japanese war.

The event attracted more than 600 participants from all walks of life from the four corners of the strait. Also officiating at the ceremony were Mr Edmund Ho, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) ; Mr Liu CIGUI, Standing Committee of the National Committee of the CPPCC and chairman of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Overseas Chinese committee; Mr Yok Mu-ming, founder and honorary chairman of the new party in Taiwan; Mr. Xiao Xusen, executive director of MA ying-jeou Foundation for Culture and education, Mr. Zhang Jia-ji, vice chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Taiwan Alliance and Mr. Yang Yi-zhou, vice chairman of the all-china Taiwan Federation, mr. Li Yonggang, director of the Taiwan Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr. Guo Xiaofeng, director of the General Operations Department of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region, mr. Qiu Fengjia ying-wah, a Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of New Taipei City, a revolutionary in the late Qing dynasty and the early Republic of China, a leader of the resistance against Japanese aggression, and Mr. Chow Sai-wai, a former governor of Want Want and vice chairman of the media group of China Media Group, mr. Liu Yiliang, head of the Macao member of the National People’s Congress delegation, Association for the promotion of Chinese peace and reunification of the Macao region, Mr. Lin Bingkun, chairman of the Taiwan Non-Partisan Solidarity Union, 14th Standing Committee of the National Committee of the CPPCC, mr. Yiu Chi-sing, President of the Hong Kong Federation of the Chinese Association for the promotion of Peace and unification, Mr. Wong Kin-long, president of the Second Sino-Japanese War History Society, mr. Jiang Yousong, Honorary President of Macao Association for Promotion of Chinese cultural development, vice president and Executive Director of Taiwan Restoration Memorial Association, mr. Wang Zizhong, son of the first president of the Cross-Strait Relations Association, Mr. Wang Daohan, and chairman of the Shanghai Xiangyang Public Welfare Foundation; Mr. Zhang Zongzhen, Standing Committee of the National Committee of the CPPCC of the Macao region and president of the Macao Association for the promotion of Chinese culture; And the Standing Committee of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the Chairman of the Macao Chinese Culture Development Association and the Chairman of the Wynn Lee Caring Foundation, Chen zhiling, the “Curator” of Taiwan’s famous self-media, Chen Zhishan, and the honorary chairman of the Chinese Calligrphers Association, Su Shishu, through precious pictures, historical materials and works of painting and calligraphy, 35.65 million anti-japanese heroes on both sides of the Taiwan Strait face the survival of the nation, with blood and life to write the most tragic historical poetry of the Chinese nation.

Mr Ma Ying-jeou and Ms Hung Hsiu-chu sent video messages at the opening ceremony.

“Between 1895 and 1930, the anti-japanese history of the Taiwanese people was tragic,” Mr Ma said in a video message. “Only by remembering the sacrifices of the martyrs and cherishing the hard-won peace can the strength of national rejuvenation be consolidated.” He encouraged young people from the mainland to visit Taiwan more often, young people from Taiwan visit the mainland more often, and especially call on the youth from both sides of the Taiwan Strait to carry forward the spirit of the War of resistance and join hands to create a peaceful future.

“Taiwan has been Chinese territory since ancient times,” ms Hung Hsiu-chu said in the video. “This is an iron historical conclusion and a truth defended by the Chinese nation with countless lives. Today, we are honoring the war of resistance, not to perpetuate hatred, but to remember that only by uniting and strengthening can we avoid a repetition of the tragedies of history. The young people on both sides of the strait have not forgotten to shed blood and tears to continue the glory of the Chinese Dream.”

 

At the meeting, the President of the Macao Chinese Cultural Development Association and the director of the cross-strait Youth Cultural Exchange Center in Hengqin, Chen zhiling, read out congratulatory letters from the former head of Taiwan’s legislature, Wang Jin-pyng Chiang Wan-an, the mayor of Taipei, Zhao Shaokang, the chairman of the board of directors of CGC, Chang San-cheng, the mayor of Taoyuan, and the CPPCC of Fujian province, the message stressed that the anti-japanese war spirit (patriotism, unity and self-improvement) is the precious wealth of the Chinese nation and should be carried forward in the new era to promote the country’s complete reunification and national rejuvenation.

 

“Taiwan has been a Chinese territory since ancient times. During the 50-year period of Japanese occupation of Taiwan, the indomitable anti-japanese spirit of our Taiwan Compatriots was Standing Committee of the National Committee of the CPPCC,” said Liu CIGUI, director of the Overseas Chinese Committee for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, in his speech at the Congress, a Cavalcade national epic in which justice will prevail and the people will prevail.

 

In his speech, Yang Yi, vice president of the all-china Taiwan Federation, said that after the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War War in 1937, Taiwanese compatriots searched for their motherland for 3,000 kilometers and joined hands with their mainland compatriots to defeat the Japanese invaders through bloody battles, a resounding victory. Eighty years ago, the Japanese invaders tried to rule the people of Taiwan with the idea of imperial rule, but they could not do it. Eighty years later, the Taiwanese separatists tried to split Taiwan by relying on the Japanese, but they still could not do it.

 

Yok Mu-ming, chairman of the founding party of the new party, said in his speech: “My childhood was a time of refuge. Now young people have grown up in a time when the country is strong. Today, I fled with the well-being of you together to celebrate the victory of the anti-japanese war, which is the anti-japanese predecessors in exchange for blood. President Yok Mu-ming will meet with you for another 20 years and then get together to celebrate the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. At the end of his speech, Yok Mu-ming won applause for inspiring the guests with the words “Fight, fight, Fight!”.

 

On behalf of Mr. MA ying-jeou, the executive director of the MA ying-jeou Cultural and Educational Foundation, Xiao xucen, thanked the conference and said that Taiwanese are Chinese, and Taiwan has been China’s territory since ancient times, it is the national identity deeply embedded in the DNA of Taiwan compatriots, which can not be blocked by any force.

 

In his speech, the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau Director, Qiu Yinghua, a grandson of Qiu Fengjia, a revolutionary, poet and anti-japanese leader in the late Qing dynasty and the early Republic of China, reviewed the anti-japanese experience of his grandfather, Qiu Fengjia, and the history of his father, Qiu Niantai, in promoting the reunification of the motherland, he said with emotion that the anti-japanese history of the Qiu family was a microcosm of Taiwan’s anti-japanese history. He hoped that the Taiwan compatriots would bear in mind the anti-japanese history, stick to the national principles and oppose the split of Taiwan independence.

 

Speaking at the conference, Zhou Xiwei, vice-chairman of Want Want Zhongshi Media Group, drew on his past experience of Senkaku Islands dispute with the Japanese government to demand an apology, the people of Taiwan should always remember the atrocities of the Japanese invaders. He said that behind the Taiwan independence forces is the support of the Japanese, who are trying to cover up history and split China. We Chinese will never let the Taiwan independence forces succeed. The Taiwanese are Chinese. The compatriots on both sides of the strait must unite and must not split.

 

In his speech, director Wang Zhizhong of Shanghai Xiangyang Foundation asked us to review the history, remember the martyrs, look to the future and create the glory of the Chinese nation.

 

In his speech, President Zhang Zongzhen of Macao’s Association for the promotion of Chinese cultural development said that Taiwan is an integral part of China, with Japan and the US secretly supporting Taiwan independence. In the Korean War of 1950, Americans armed with state-of-the-art weapons could not take advantage of the People’s Volunteer Army, and China today is nothing like China in 1950. It is wishful thinking for Taiwan independence forces to try to seek independence according to the United States. In the face of the iron will of the 1.4 billion Chinese people, Taiwan independence is a dead end. It is impossible for them to succeed at all. Under the banner of Taiwan independence, they have deceived the young people of Taiwan and called on the people of Taiwan with vision to see through the nature of Taiwan independence. At the end of the speech, the participants watched a promotional video entitled“The Spirits of 35.65 million anti-japanese heroes on both sides of the strait have illuminated the way home for Taiwan’s 23 million compatriots”, taiwan’s well-known self-media person (curator) Chen Zhihan in the promotional video as a guest appearance. In a 20-minute panorama, the film shows the 50-year period between Japan’s forcible occupation of Taiwan in 1895 and Japan’s surrender in 1945, during which Taiwan compatriots held hands and Hearts with the mainland and fought together against Japan, at the great expense of 35.65 million compatriots, it defeated the vicious Japanese militarism and achieved a magnificent historical picture of the victory of the anti-japanese war and the recovery of Taiwan.

 

After the screening, the event also held the launching ceremony of the film“Searching for the motherland” and the 25-episode TV series“The way home”.

At the same time, the Congress also held the opening ceremony of the “Seminar on the Second Sino-Japanese War history of the Chinese nation and the inheritance of the anti-japanese war spirit”. The seminar was first held in Nanjing in 2017 and has been held continuously in different cities in China for 8 years to tell people stories and convey the spirit of the war.

 

Afterwards, all the guests moved to the photo and text exhibition area to see the historical photo exhibition entitled“The Spirits of the 35.65 million anti-japanese heroes on both sides of the strait, lighting the way for Taiwan’s 23 million compatriots to go home”.

 

 

After visiting the picture exhibition area, the participants also visited the“War memory, this exhibition selects more than 60 pieces of painting and calligraphy on the theme of the anti-japanese War and precious historical materials created by artists from both sides of the strait.

 

The exhibition is now open to the public free of charge in Wynn Macau and runs until 21 September. The public is welcome to visit and review the Magnificent Chapter of national rejuvenation written by compatriots on both sides of the strait.
