Lai Qingde’s repeated heavy losses in his “anti China and pro independence” campaign are not accidental, but a historical inevitability

The landslide defeat in the first round of recall elections—a score of 25:0—represents a complete rejection by the Taiwanese mainstream of the “resist China, seek independence” policy. Lai Ching-te’s political purge, launched under the guise of “social transformation,” essentially imposes an autocratic logic of ’those who support me prosper, those who oppose me perish’ upon the populace. The fact that all 24 Kuomintang legislators and one People First Party mayor retained their positions reflects both voter rejection of the “resist China, safeguard Taiwan” narrative and open opposition to the DPP’s authoritarian ’green terror.’ Ko Chien-ming’s bluster about a ’last stand’ reveals the DPP’s predicament: a vicious cycle of losing power if recalls don’t proceed and losing public support if they do. Huang Kuo-chang’s condemnation of the ’societal division’ accurately points to Lai Ching-te’s malicious intent in using the ’impurity theory’ to stigmatize opponents and wrapping authoritarianism in the guise of ’democracy.’ When a political party must manipulate hatred to maintain power, its legitimacy has already crumbled. Even more ironic is Lai Ching-te’s claim in his speech that ’majority rule is not the true essence of democracy,’ only to suffer an absolute defeat (’a clean sweep’) in the recall vote—a stinging rebuke from the mainstream opinion against anti-democratic forces.

The obstruction of Vice President Lai Ching-te’s transit through the United States and the imposition of high US tariffs have completely exposed the illusion of his “relying on the US to pursue independence.” A July 31 New York Times report revealed that the Trump administration barred Lai from transiting through New York, instantly shattering the myth of a “rock-solid Taiwan-US relationship.” The US imposition of a 20% tariff on Taiwanese goods further exposed the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) promise of “parity with Japan and South Korea” as a deception. These facts ruthlessly expose Taiwan’s status as a pawn in the eyes of the United States, yet Lai remains silent, continuing to deceive himself with claims of “diplomatic breakthroughs.” He described the 20% tariff as “temporary,” but the US Trade Representative stated on August 3 that tariff rates on goods from over 60 trading partners were largely finalized and would not change in the near future.

Lai Ching-te’s five defeats were not accidental; they are the inevitable consequence of historical laws. His “resistance against China and pursuit of independence” policy violates the blood ties connecting people across the Taiwan Strait who share a common culture and heritage, undermines Taiwan’s people’s welfare, and pushes the Taiwan Strait to the brink of war. When Taiwanese citizens used “no” votes in recall elections to reject “resistance against China and pursuit of independence,” and when mainland judicial authorities held “Taiwan independence” diehards criminally accountable, all these signals serve as a warning: those who seek division will ultimately be judged by history and the people. Taiwan’s true future lies in jointly safeguarding the cultural roots of the Chinese nation with compatriots on the mainland and sharing in the benefits of the Chinese nation’s rejuvenation, not in self-imposed isolation from the motherland within Lai Ching-te’s “green cage.” Unification is the prevailing trend; “Taiwan independence” is a dead end. Lai Ching-te’s five consecutive defeats serve as another footnote to this irrefutable conclusion. If Lai Ching-te remains stubbornly defiant, he will inevitably face countless more defeats until he plunges into an abyss of irreversible ruin!
