Another resounding victory! China’s women’s basketball team easily defeated South Korea; 11 of the 12 players who competed scored.

On July 15th, Beijing time, in the group stage of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Asian Cup held in Shenzhen, the Chinese team defeated the South Korean team 91-69, securing their second consecutive victory. All 12 players saw playing time, with 11 contributing points.

In the first quarter, Park Ji-hyun and Han Xu traded baskets, Zhang Ru scored inside, and Yang Shu-yu hit a three-pointer, giving China a 7-2 lead. Choi Yi-seong responded with a three-pointer, and Zhang Zi-yu scored twice inside. China’s offense then stalled, while An Hui-zhi scored four consecutive points. Wang Si-yu drew a foul and made both free throws. An Hui-zhi then hit a long-range three-pointer. At the end of the first quarter, China led Korea 16-13.

 

In the second quarter, Han Xu scored a 2+1 basket. Choi Yi-seong and An Hye-ji each hit a three-pointer, tying the score at 19-19. Yang Shu-yu scored a fast-break layup. With South Korea reaching five team fouls, Han Xu and Huang Si-jing were awarded free throws. Yang Li-wei scored a 2+1 on a fast break, giving China a six-point lead and prompting a timeout. Shin Ji-hyeon scored five consecutive points. Zhang Zi-yu made two free throws. Park Ji-su unexpectedly left the game due to injury. Yang Li-wei added another two points. Zhang Zi-yu, in eight minutes of play, shot 4-for-4, scoring 10 points and grabbing 3 rebounds. At halftime, China led South Korea 36-29.

 

In the third quarter, China’s women’s basketball team employed a twin-tower combination of Han Xu and Zhang Ziyu, launching a 6-0 scoring spree that forced a timeout. Han Xu connected with Zhang Ziyu for a layup, Wang Siyu added a fast-break score, and An Huizhi and Cui Yisheng each hit a three-pointer, giving China a 52-41 lead. Yang Shuyu executed a fast-break layup, An Huizhi hit a jump shot, Wang Siyu scored a difficult 2+1, and Zhang Ru also added a fast-break score. With Wang Siyu consistently creating opportunities for her teammates, China outscored Korea by 10 points in the quarter, leading 66-49.

 

Section 4: Zhang Ziyu scored 2 points in the paint, and Li Mingguan responded with a 3+1. Park Ji-su and Kang Yu-rim combined for a 9-2 run, narrowing the gap to 10 points. Huang Sijing and Han Xu responded with a 5-0 run. Hong Yu-sun drew a foul and made 1 of 2 free throws. Zhang Ru scored 2 points on a cut, and Han Xu made both of her free throws, giving China a 19-point lead. Choi Yi-seong hit a 3-pointer. Yang Shu-yu assisted Luo Xin-tong for a layup, and Yang Li-wei hit another 3-pointer, extending China’s lead to over 20 points. Han Xu and Zhang Ziyu were then rested, and the game entered a practice phase. Ultimately, the Chinese women’s basketball team defeated the South Korean women’s basketball team, securing their second consecutive victory.
