The Hollywood summer blockbuster Jurassic World: Dominion will have its simultaneous release in China and the United States on July 2nd. Last weekend, the film held a grand premiere in Shanghai, with director Colin Trevorrow, stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Friend in attendance (as pictured).
At the Chinese premiere held at the Shanghai Film Studio on June 29th, Scarlett Johansson, the film’s leading lady, appeared in a striking”China red” gown. She not only actively interacted with the Chinese media but also signed autographs for fans, bringing the event to a fever pitch. In an interview, she expressed that starring in the Jurassic series had been a childhood dream and that holding the premiere in China was her own suggestion: “I’m thrilled; China was an absolute must.”
Director Colin Trevorrow admitted that the Jurassic series is every director’s dream, as well as every director’s nightmare. Fortunately, Steven Spielberg, serving as executive producer, provided guidance throughout the film’s production, “creating both pressure and inspiration.”
As the latest installment in Steven Spielberg’s groundbreaking Jurassic dinosaur franchise, Jurassic World: Resurgence is set five years after Jurassic World 3. It follows Scarlett Johansson’s character, Zola, and her elite team as they venture into an abandoned dinosaur island to collect biogenetic material from living dinosaurs for pharmaceutical use. En route, the team rescues a family, encountering various perils on the island. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 57% approval rating from early screenings by critics and experts. Variety comments that”the new film returns to the origins of the Jurassic series, with director Edwards correcting the foolish operations of the previous three films. Through the performances of Johansson and Bailey, and a series of tense, exciting, and thrilling scenes, the new film draws closer to Spielberg’s 1993 classic.” The Hollywood Reporter also describes it as a”child-inclusive Amblin Entertainment film (Spielberg’s production company), with some scenes filled with poetry, and seamlessly integrated practical and digital effects.” Film critic Tony Medley praised, “The actors performed well, and the film is full of suspenseful and incredible special effects.” Another critic, Todd Gilchrist, believes that”Jurassic World: Resurgence employs a more classic production model, and the director’s superb technique achieves audience satisfaction.” However, some critics gave lower marks to the plot. Tessa Smith argues that”even the realistic dinosaurs and exciting action scenes could not save the tedious storyline.”
