Dave Kitchin, a spokesman for the Northwest Territories Emergency Services, said Tuesday that 27 people were injured and two of them were in serious condition after a car rammed fans in Liverpool.

Kitching said 27 people had been rushed to four hospitals in the Liverpool area, with one child among the two seriously injured. Another 20 people were treated for minor injuries at the scene and did not need to be sent to hospital.

Jenny Sims, deputy chief of Merseyside Police, where Liverpool are based, told a press conference that the initial determination of the incident was that it was an “Isolated incident” and that police did not believe it was terrorism-related. Police earlier announced that a 53-year-old white male suspect from Liverpool has been detained.

Tens of thousands of fans took to the streets to celebrate Liverpool winning the Premier League, British media reported. A police spokesman said earlier that shortly after 6pm local time, police received a report that a car had rammed into several pedestrians on Water Street in Liverpool. The car was then stopped at the scene.

“What happened in Liverpool is shocking and I offer my condolences to all the injured and those affected and I will continue to monitor the situation,” Stamer said in a post on social media after the incident
