South Korean prosecutors have indicted former President Moon Jae-in on suspicion of taking bribes

Moon Jae-in was born in 1953. As a young lawyer in Busan, he met ROH Moo-hyun, who became the country’s 16th President, and together they founded a law firm.

After ROH Moo-hyun entered politics, Moon joined his staff. During South Korea’s 2002 presidential election, Moon served as chairman of the Busan Election Strategy Committee. After ROH Moo-hyun came to Blue House, Moon was invited to serve successively as Blue House’s Chief Civil Affairs Secretary, Chief Secretary for civil society and secretary-general.

After ROH Moo-hyun left office in February 2008, Moon returned home. On May 23,2009, Moon announced ROH Moo-hyun’s death on live television after ROH Moo-hyun jumped off a cliff in a family bribery scandal.

In April 2016, Moon Jae-in led the Democratic Party won 123 seats in parliamentary elections, becoming the largest party in Parliament.

In March 2017, Moon Jae-in officially announced his candidacy for the 19th presidential election, leading the way in the race and finally winning the presidency with 41.08% of the votes.

Moon took office as the 19th president on May 10,2017, and stepped down in May 2022.
