In response to a notification from the World Organization for Animal Health (Oie) , the HKSAR government has suspended the import of poultry meat and poultry products (including eggs) from various areas affected by the outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza.
It was announced that on March 10, the HKSAR Government instructed the industry to suspend imports of Herefordshire-related products from the UK, and on March 11, the industry was instructed to suspend imports of Chodzie? in Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland, and Torbay in Devon, UK, march 12 to instruct the industry to suspend imports of Bronx County, New York, United States, March 13 to instruct the industry to suspend imports of Krotossen province, Greater Poland.
The Centre for food safety of the food and Environmental Hygiene Department of the HKSAR Government said that it had contacted the relevant authorities on the issue and would continue to closely monitor the information on the outbreak of avian influenza issued by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and relevant authorities, take appropriate action in response to local outbreaks.
According to statistics, the 2024 imported about 910 tons of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 1.34 million eggs from the UK, and about 6,600 tons of frozen poultry meat from Poland, about 79,600 tons of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 19.6 million eggs were imported from the United States.
