Excessive levels of organic fluoride have been detected in some water sources in Gifu Prefecture, Japan

The government of Kakamigahara, Gifu Prefecture, said on the same day that the concentration of organic fluoride in the city’s tap water source had exceeded the provisional Japanese safety standards, the city has launched a water quality survey of 95 wells selected throughout the city.

The survey results showed that the levels of organic fluoride in water samples at six locations exceeded the prescribed limits, with two locations located within the Gifu base in the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.

The city and Gifu Prefecture said they would continue to conduct a detailed investigation into the condition of wells around the base.
