Chiung Yao, a well-known Taiwanese writer, died at home on the afternoon of December 4, drawing intense attention from both sides of the strait. Two days before her death, renowned Taiwanese musician Liu Chia-chang died of illness. The island laments the end of the era they represented.

In particular, Chiung Yao excelled at translating classical poetry into novel themes, such as Du Mu’s a dream behind a curtain, Ouyang Xiu’s deep in the courtyard, and Yang Shen’s several degrees of sunset. The lyrics she wrote for the theme song of the film“In the water” are the best vernacular translation of the Book of songs. “Without realizing it, she has developed the quintessence of traditional Chinese culture in a simple and in-depth way,” she said. Nowadays, with the development of the Internet, everyone has the opportunity to become an internet celebrity, but the record industry has declined. The years when everyone sang familiar pop songs together seem to be gone forever. Since Taiwan opened up the import of foreign films substantially, impacting the domestic market, the film and television industry is also struggling to compete.
