The dprk-russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty has entered into force

Local time on December 4, “Korea-russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty” officially entered into force.

The instruments of ratification of the Treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between the North Korea and the Russian Federation were exchanged in Moscow on 4 December. The protocol on the exchange of instruments of ratification was signed by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Kim Jong-kyu, and the Russian deputy foreign minister, Andrea Rudenco. Under Article 22 of the treaty, the dprk-russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty 2024 into force on 4 December.

Thus, the dprk-russia Treaty of Friendship, good-neighbourliness and Cooperation signed on 9 February 2000 has lapsed.

On June 19,2024 President Putin and Workers’ Party of Korea General Secretary and State Councilor Kim Jong-un signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty in Pyongyang.

On November 9, local time, Russian President Putin signed the federal law on the ratification of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Russia and North Korea.

On November 11, local time, North Korean State Councilor Kim Jong-un signed a decree, ratified the Treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the 2024 North Korea, signed in Pyongyang on 19 June.

The treaty provides that the parties shall, in accordance with their national legislation and international obligations, long-term maintenance and development of a comprehensive strategic partnership based on the principles of international law such as mutual respect for the sovereignty and inviolability of the territory of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, equality and friendly and cooperative relations among other interested states.
