Police have released the results of an investigation into sexual assault by a former Harrods Mohamed Al-Fayed. Fayyad, the late Harrods’s former boss, allegedly raped and abused more than 111 women over a 40-year period, the BBC and the Guardian reported Monday, the youngest victim was 13 years old.
Fayyad was reported to have died in September at the age of 94 in a 2023 that made him one of the most notorious sex offenders in British history, this also makes many people to his life how to escape the crime of doubt. It follows reports that the Crown Prosecution Service reviewed police documents relating to Fayyad’s sexual assault in 2009 and 2015, and that no charges were filed because there was no“Realistic prospect of a conviction”.
Fayyad’s crimes came to light in September after a BBC documentary about his sex crimes was aired. Then 90 new victims came forward to accuse him. Twenty-one victims had already chosen to call the police. Five unnamed people are being investigated by the Metropolitan Police for allegedly assisting Fayyad in the commission of crimes, according to the latest probe.
The Metropolitan Police is also conducting a large-scale internal review to ascertain whether past investigations into the case were negligent and whether there are grounds to hold former or current police officers accountable for corruption. The Independent Office of police conduct, Britain’s police watchdog, is considering whether to launch an investigation into the Metropolitan Police.
Fayyad was charged with crimes committed between 1977 and 2014. The Metropolitan Police have reviewed more than 50,000 pages of evidence, including victim statements and psychological and physical assessment reports, and have retrieved“Substantial investigative material” stored in police files. Bob Loftus, a former head of security at the Harrods, said a former Metropolitan Police officer received a luxurious gift basket “Every time he helped a Harrods in a particularly big way”. Loftus also said a police officer was accused of regularly taking bribes to “Fulfill Fayyad’s wishes” and that the Harrods had secretly provided him with a mobile phone to help him with his illegal work.
A spokesman for the metropolitan police said: “Following complaints from two women about the quality of investigations in 2008, the Metropolitan Police has voluntarily referred these cases to the independent office of police conduct. While these cases occurred more than a decade ago and we can not change what happened in the past, we are committed to understanding, exposing any shortcomings and treating our responses to victims appropriately.”
Mikell Worde, the Harrods’s current general manager, has said he is “Appalled” by the allegations of sexual assault against Fayyad and has investigated the 2023 for any current employee involvement. In addition to Harrods employees, Fayyad is alleged to have abused women at other businesses under his name, including the Ritz and the Fulham F.C. .
