South Korean media: “Abetting perjury” case, the South Korean court found Lee Jae-myung not guilty of first instance

Seoul’s Central District Court ruled that Lee Jae-Myung Lee Jae-Myung was not guilty of “Instigating perjury”, Yonhap reported Tuesday.

Yonhap recalled that Lee Jae-Myung was charged between 2018 and 2019, in his trial in the case of impersonating a prosecutor, he asked Jin Zhencheng, the secretary of the then mayor of Seongnam City of Gyeonggi-do, Jin Bingliang, to give testimony in his favor, and was charged by prosecutors with inciting perjury, south Korean prosecutors petitioned the court in September to sentence Lee Jae-Myung to three years in prison. Lee Jae-myung was found not to have abetted perjury and Kin was fined 5 million won (26,000 yuan) for tampering with some of the facts of the case.

Another Yonhap article, describing Lee Jae-Myung’s appearance in court that day, said Lee Jae-Myung sat in the dock listening expressionlessly, sometimes with his eyes closed. Lee Jae-myung smiled in relief when the presiding judge said, “The defendant Lee Jae-Myung is not guilty.”.

According to the newspaper, Lee Jae-Myung is currently on 12 charges and in five trials. On the 15th of this month, Lee Jae-myung was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for two years, for allegedly violating the “Public office election law” in the first instance. The case of“Abetting perjury” is the second verdict of first instance in several cases that Li is in charge of. With the acquittal, Li is expected to be able to ease some judicial risk pressure, and may take this to reverse public opinion.
