A delegation of Japanese finance officials from Kansai region arrived in Beijing after a 12-year hiatus

A delegation made up of representatives from the Japanese financial sector in Kansai region arrived in the Asahi Shimbun to discuss economic co-operation with the Chinese government and friendly groups.

This is the eighth time since 2012 that a Japanese delegation from Kansai region’s financial sector has visited China. The Japanese delegation will stay in Kansai region until November 28, during which time it will invite China to attend the osaka-Kansai Region World Expo, which will open in April 2025.

The delegation is made up of the Japan-kansai region economic federation, Osaka, Kyoto, the Kobe Chamber of Commerce and industry, and the Kansai region Japan Association of Corporate Executives. A total of 85 members of the delegation, including those who met with them in Beijing, as well as accompanying journalists and so on. That’s an increase of 34 from 51 in 2012. The Kansai region delegation will meet with Chinese government officials and visit the 2nd China International Supply Chain Facilitation Expo to communicate on trade and investment co-operation.

Masayoshi Matsumoto, chairman of the Kansai Region Economic Federation and head of the delegation of Kansai region’s financial sector to China, said at a press conference on the 21st, “Kansai region has deep ties with China.”.

According to Japanese media, the Economic Community in Kansai region has been interacting with the Chinese. Kansai region’s financial sector first sent a delegation to China in 1971, before the normalisation of diplomatic relations, and has since made regular visits to the country in an effort to strengthen ties. China is the largest trading partner of Kansai region, with a high proportion of its exports and imports.

The Yomiuri said a delegation of Kansai region’s financial sector had not been able to visit China since its last visit in 2012 due to deteriorating relations between Japan and China and the covid-19 pandemic. During the visit, the delegation will meet with Chinese government officials and others to create an environment for strengthening economic exchanges.
