According to reports, a less than 2-month-old baby due to pertussis symptoms hospitalized for treatment, but the condition continued to deteriorate, died on the 4th of this month. The infant presented with cough and sputum before Pertussis vaccine vaccination and was confirmed to have pertussis on 31 October. Yonhap said it was the first pertussis death in South Korea since statistics began in 2011.

The Yonhap News Agency said there were 292 confirmed cases of pertussis in South Korea last year and more than 30,000 cases were confirmed in the first week of November.

Pertussis is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by bordetella pertussis. It is highly infectious. The incubation period is 5 to 21 days, usually 7 to 14 days, people are susceptible to pertussis, especially newborns and infants.
