On November 4, Taiwan’s legislature, the Finance Committee, examined draft amendments to the law on the division of Revenue and expenditure.

According to a report by the United News Network, Taiwan’s legislature, the“Finance Committee”, has been going through a long day for four days. Starting from the morning, the DPP’s public opinion representatives will ask questions through meetings, procedural questions and other means, to block the“Bill” into item by item consideration, the whole day, the“Ruling and opposition” representatives of the public opinion nearly 70 times to speak on the stage, each expressed their support and opposition to amend the“Revenue and Expenditure Division Law” position. Chen Yuzhen declared a break in the evening, saying only that the meeting would be held after dinner, triggering the displeasure of DPP representatives present and laying the groundwork for a clash between the two sides.

Reported that the DPP representatives are worried about the KMT “Sneak attack”, so stay in the Senate and so Chen Yuzhen returned to the Senate to chair the meeting. Chen Yuzhen returned to the meeting shortly before 8pm and asked the officials who had left to return for further information. The DPP representatives present asked Chen Yuzhen to declare the meeting open, but at that time the number of KMT representatives at the scene was smaller than that of the DPP representatives. Therefore, until a number of KMT representatives returned to the Senate, chen Yuzhen then announced the meeting and read out the relevant provisions, setting off an uproar among DPP representatives and robbing Chen Yuzhen of his materials.

Blue and green representatives vied with each other for microphones.

The KMT representatives immediately stepped forward to assist Chen Yuzhen, sparking a rare tug-of-war between the “Finance committees”. Chen Yuzhen took the microphone to read out some of the text, but DPP representatives said the reading was invalid and questioned Chen Yuzhen’s integrity. Amid the confusion, Chen Yuzhen again declared a break, until 10:30 pm and then back to the forum, announced that the meeting will resume on the 6th.

Unitednews.com also reported that Chen Yuzhen announced a break to once again ignite the discontent of DPP representatives and asked Chen Yuzhen to deal with the motion to adjourn the meeting first, but Chen Yuzhen did not budge and went straight to the elevator, the DPP’s representative Guo Guowen, Lai Huiyuan and others blocked the elevator and prevented Chen Yuzhen from going downstairs, demanding that Chen Yuzhen come out to handle the temporary motion to adjourn the meeting. Representatives of the DPP, including Wang Shijian, Guo Yuqing, Wu Siyao and Shen Boyang, shouted abuse at Chen Yuzhen in front of the elevator and asked Chen Yuzhen to come out and face them. It was not until 0 am on the 5th that Chen Yuzhen and his party were released by DPP representatives, ending an hour-and-a-half-long “Story of the stuck elevator”.

In response to the clash, the KMT said Taiwan’s legislature was not a“Contest with loud voices” and asked the DPP to act as a professional representative of public opinion. The KMT criticised William Lai for saying as head of the executive branch that the “Law on the division of Revenue and expenditure” should be amended as soon as possible, the DPP’s representatives of public opinion are blocking the agenda and local development in the“Finance Committee”.
