Britain’s Conservative Party elected Kemi Badenoch, a former business and trade secretary, as its leader today after the biggest defeat in parliamentary elections in July, she vowed to win back the hearts and minds of Britain’s long-reigning Conservative Party by returning it to its founding principles.
The 44-year-old replaced former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as the new leader of the Conservative Party and is the first african-n woman to lead a major British political party, Reuters reported.
She has promised to revolutionise the party, arguing that the tories, once”Ruling from the left” and moving towards the centre, must return to the party’s traditions.
Ms Badennock, who will bring a more rightward Leader of the Conservative Party, is likely to support a smaller government and challenge what she calls the institutionalised left.
