The Japanese Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant reactor, which had just been restarted, was shut down because of a mechanical failure

Tohoku Electric Power Company officially shut down its NHK Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant reactor Monday morning because of internal machine failure, NHK reported.

The Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant unit 2 in Miyagi Prefecture reportedly reopened on October 29 after a 13-and-a-half-year hiatus, and the plant was shut down after a 20112011 T?hoku earthquake and tsunami.

The company had planned to resume power production on November 3, but the measuring machines inside the nuclear reactor malfunctioned and stopped working. The company then decided to inspect the machines, on the morning of the 4th, the reactor was shut down shortly after it was restarted.

The company said the failure did not result in radioactive material leaking to the outside world, and it plans to investigate the cause of the failure in detail, and the restart time of the nuclear reactor has not been determined.
