The Ministry of Defence said the agreement marked a fundamental shift in security relations between Britain, Germany and Europe. On the investment front, the deal calls for the opening of a new gun barrel factory in the UK, creating more than 400 jobs and providing a near # 500m boost to the economy. Britain and Germany will also systematically develop a series of groundbreaking defence programmes over the next few years. The Ministry of Defence said the agreement was“An important moment for NATO and for the security and prosperity of Europe”.

The BBC reported that German maritime surveillance aircraft will also regularly take off from the Royal Scottish Air Force Base on a North Atlantic patrol mission. According to the times, British government sources said it would be the first time in 25 years that German aircraft were deployed in the UK. This cooperation is mainly to assist in the search for Russian submarines and enhance NATO security. For this, “We will work more closely together,” said Pistorius, the German defence minister. We are working together to strengthen the European pillar within NATO and to enhance our capabilities through various programs in the army, Air Force, Navy and Cyber Fields.”

According to a report by Politico on the 23rd, the agreement will complete the triangular defense agreement among the three major European military countries, these include the Lancaster House Agreement signed by Britain and France in 2010 and the Treaty of Aachen signed by France and Germany in 2019.
