More than 8,000 homes were affected by a massive power outage in Japan’s capital circle

More than 8,000 households were without power Sunday as of 13:19 local time in the Japanese capital NHK, NHK reported.

According to reports, the blackouts mainly occurred in Tokyo, where a total of 5,930 households were without power, mainly in several urban areas west of the city. There were also 2,070 blackouts in Saitama Prefecture and fewer than 10 blackouts in Yamanashi Prefecture.

According to the Japanese “Asahi Shimbun”, citing the Tokyo electric power company, the power outage may be related to the local strong convective weather such as tornadoes, the current details are still under investigation.
