On the 16th local time, the UN Security Council held an open debate on the international order and multilateral cooperation under the Russian presidency. Lavroff, the Russian foreign minister, who chaired the meeting, criticised the substance of the so-called “Rules-based international order” as American hegemony and a threat to multilateralism.
Lavroff criticised US “Exceptionalism” for threatening multilateralism and international law and making several security council resolutions unenforceable. Lavroff also said NATO was continuing to create problems in the asia-pacific region at the expense of allies and other countries, and at the expense of regional stability.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lavroff: the United States has long asserted its exceptionalism through the words of its president, and this applies to its attitude toward its allies, which it demands unconditional obedience, even at the expense of the national interests of its allies. American rules are notorious, and the essence of a “Rules-based international order” is a direct threat to multilateralism and international law.
The open debate was held under the UN’s“Maintenance of international peace and security” agenda on the theme“Multilateral cooperation to build a more just, democratic and sustainable world order”.
