According to a press release issued after the AIT meeting, Gu told William Lai that the US would continue to give strong support to Taiwan’s “Self-defence capability”, according to Taiwan’s Zhongtian news website. The US will continue to support the island, in line with its longstanding “One China policy” guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the Taiwan Three Communiqués and the “Six guarantees”. But in Lai’s press release, only Gu was mentioned saying that the United States would continue to support Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities. US support for Taiwan is also consistent with a long-standing US policy guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the Three Communiqués and the six guarantees.
Taiwanese media said that both sides had written about the “Law on relations with Taiwan”, the “Three Communiqués law” and the “Six guarantees”, but that the “One-china policy” mentioned by the US had been “Silenced” in the LAI’s press release.
