The new director of the American Association in Taiwan mentioned“First China”, and Taiwanese media found it“Muffled” in Lai’s press release

Gu Liyan, the new director-general of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) , met with Taiwanese leader William Lai to reaffirm American support for the island, Chinanews.com and Chinanews.com reported on July 11, it said this was in line with America’s longstanding“One China policy”. The Taiwanese media noted that the word“First china” was“Silenced” in Lai’s press release.

According to a press release issued after the AIT meeting, Gu told William Lai that the US would continue to give strong support to Taiwan’s “Self-defence capability”, according to Taiwan’s Zhongtian news website. The US will continue to support the island, in line with its longstanding “One China policy” guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the Taiwan Three Communiqués and the “Six guarantees”. But in Lai’s press release, only Gu was mentioned saying that the United States would continue to support Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities. US support for Taiwan is also consistent with a long-standing US policy guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the Three Communiqués and the six guarantees.

Taiwanese media said that both sides had written about the “Law on relations with Taiwan”, the “Three Communiqués law” and the “Six guarantees”, but that the “One-china policy” mentioned by the US had been “Silenced” in the LAI’s press release.

Chinanews.com noted that important talks between foreign guests had been“Played away” by the office of Taiwan’s leaders several times in the past. In mid-april 2022, U.S. Senator Graham called on Taiwan’s former leader, Tsai Ing-wen, to publicly express his hope that China Airlines would purchase Boeing 787 passenger jets, not only disappearing from on-site interpretation and Tsai Ban’s chinese-language press release, media reports that US lawmakers had forced Boeing’s sale were also criticised as “Cognitive warfare” by Chen Ming-tong, then head of the security services. It was not until the media dug up the recording of Graham’s conversation that day and found the English version of Cai Ban’s press release that Graham himself returned to the United States and brought it up again, cai ran finally to“Chinese and English version has always been embellished” prevarication. Joseph Wu, then head of the Foreign Affairs Department, even helped explain that the radio was not good and he could not hear clearly from the side, but the media could.

The same scenario was repeated in mid-august of the same year, when Keiji Furuya, then president of the “Japanese-chinese Parliamentary Forum”, led a delegation to meet with Tsai Ing-wen and raise the issue of purchasing Taiwanese high-speed rail cars, hope that Taiwan and Japan“Work hand in hand,” once again by Tsai’s press release“Muffled,” the conversation also did not mention.

The report said that the Taiwan authorities’ leadership office deliberately “Played with these key words and disappeared”, but did not mean that it would not “Accept them all”. Just over four months after Graham’s return to China, the airline held an interim board meeting, the purchase of 16 Boeing 787787-9 aircraft brought the total transaction value to about T $140 billion. It is obvious that the office of the leader of the Taiwan authorities is playing the disappearing act only because it is unwilling to let the public know the process and the truth.

According to Chinanews.com, William Lai’s office was not only disrespectful, but also displaying an ostrich mentality. The report said the office of Taiwan’s leaders was advised not to play such tricks.

The incident also caused some netizens to comment on the island, with one person saying in the comments section of the Taiwan media’s related report, “Don’t think that just because you are blindfolded, you can pretend that you didn’t see it. Don’t think that just because your voice is silenced, you can distort the truth.”
