Notably, Dmitriyev mentioned the idea on social media platform X, owned by the us-based entrepreneur Musk, yesterday before formally proposing the partnership.

Dmitriyev goes on to say that the idea of a “Bridge of peace” between Russia and Alaska is not new and goes back to the Cold War. In support of this claim, he also released a draft of the tunnel route drawn that year, as well as a map of the possible route of the new tunnel map. On the tunnel, Dmitriyev proposed that Bolin, a company owned by Musk, build it. He explained that the traditional way of building the tunnel would have cost more than $65 billion, but with Musk’s advanced technology, the cost is expected to be significantly reduced to less than $8 billion.

Russian experts said the project would have a positive impact on the Russian economy and could be an important link to strengthen relations between Moscow and Washington. For the US, it would significantly lower freight costs and reduce loading times in the eastern US, providing a stronger support for trade between the US and its main Asian partners.

Donald Trump was asked about the proposed tunnel during a White House meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskiy Donald Trump on Monday, Reuters reported. Donald Trump then asked Zelenskiy on the spot what he thought. Zelenskiy made it clear: “I’m not happy with it.”
