The expansion of the Home Return Permit groups has facilitated extensive exchanges between people from the mainland and Hong Kong and Macao, facilitating trade and investment, cultural tourism, education and scientific research.
In addition, the cross-boundary transport card in the Greater Bay area provides payment connectivity for public transport between Hong Kong and Guangdong (Lingnan Tong and octopus) and between Lingnan Pass and Macao (Macau Tong) . As of December last year, more than 62,500 Lingnan Octopus cards had been issued and 13.47 million transactions had been made, over 4,400 Hong Kong-macau travel cards have been issued and 220,000 transactions have been made.
