South Korean fire department, the evening of 29, the final confirmation of 179 people were killed and 2 injured. A witness who runs a restaurant near Wu’an Airport said he heard several explosions and then saw smoke rising.

Witness: it was about 9:00 or 8:50 in the morning, and I heard a loud bang, and at first I thought it was a tanker truck explosion, because there were a lot of tankers around here, and then I felt something was wrong, so I went outside, there was a huge plume of black smoke. Then I heard a loud explosion, it wasn’t a crash, and then I heard at least seven more explosions.

The witness said there were reports that the plane had been hit by birds before the crash, and he guessed that it might be wild geese, which are often seen near the airport.

Witness: the geese here fly in flocks. They don’t fly very fast. That’s the first thing that comes to my mind.
