April 15 is the 11th National Security Education Day. To promote national security education in schools and enhance students’ awareness of safeguarding national security, the prize presentation ceremony of the National Security Common Sense Challenge 2025\/26 was held at Olympian city, Mongkok in the afternoon. The competition attracted more than 130,000 students, a record number.<\/p>\n

Jointly organised by the Department of Justice, the Security Bureau, the Education Bureau and the charity foundation, the National Security Common Sense Challenge has been successfully held for 3 years. More than 132,000 students from 651 primary and secondary schools took part in the competition, a record number. The challenge aims to enhance students’ understanding of national security education through questions and answers, Wenhui.com, a Hong kong-based website, said Monday. A white paper on\u201cHong Kong’s practice in safeguarding national security under the\u201cOne country, two systems\u201d was included in the competition to raise students’ awareness of national security.<\/p>\n

In a video address at the ceremony, Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong, Chan kwok-kei, said that only national security can ensure the safety of Hong Kong, and only national security can ensure the safety of the home. He sent a message to young students in Hong Kong to take the initiative to assume the responsibility of safeguarding national security, to be responsible and effective guardians of national security and contribute to the prosperity and development of the country in the future.<\/p>\n

\nOfficiating at the ceremony, the Secretary for Justice, Lam Ting-kwok, said that after the promulgation and implementation of the National Security Law six years ago, Hong Kong’s Society has restored order and the economy has developed steadily. To maintain this hard-won situation, it is necessary to consciously safeguard national security, to ensure that Hong Kong has a sound economy, People’s livelihood and development. He urged the participating students to continue their efforts to contribute to the maintenance of national security and the rule of law.<\/p>\n

After many rounds of competitions, the champion of the primary school section and the secondary school section was Ying Wa Primary School and Grace Secondary School respectively, while Ling Liang Church Ewun Secondary School won the championship of the English section for non-chinese speaking secondary school students. After the prize presentation ceremony, Liu Jinglang, a student at FENGCAI middle school, said that in preparation for the competition, in addition to learning the major themes of national security knowledge, he was also exposed to many details, including reading relevant historical data, knowing the story of the martyrs who worked hard to defend the country, and understanding that national security is hard-won, \u201cI learned a lot from this competition, and I will take the initiative to learn more about national security later.\u201d. Zhao of Po Leung Kuk Tin Ka Ping Primary School, the second runner-up in the primary school team event, and her sister participated in the event on behalf of the school.
