According to CNN, the US Attorney’s office in Manhattan said on the 11th that, is investigating a sexual assault allegation against representative Eric Swowell, Democrat of California. The day before, a former SWAWELL staff member had alleged that he had had sex with her without her consent. He denies the allegation.<\/p>\n

The former staff member told CNN that in April 2024, she fell into a deep drunken state after a night of drinking with him in New York City. When she woke up, she said, she found him having sex with her in a hotel room. CNN said the woman was one of four women who have complained to the media about Swawwell’s alleged misconduct. In addition to the sexual assault allegations, other women said Swawell had sent them nude photos or sexually explicit messages.<\/p>\n
He is running for governor of California. In a statement to CNN, he said the charges were\u201cFalse\u201d and were made against the current\u201cFrontrunner\u201d on the eve of the gubernatorial election. He added that legal action would be taken if necessary.<\/p>\n
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office issued a statement Monday urging victims and people with information to contact its special victims unit, which it said would help.<\/p>\n
CNN said the charges had disrupted the governor’s campaign in Swawwell. Swawell, a former prosecutor, also ran in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary. On Friday, prominent Democrats in California and across the country called on Swawwell to reconsider his campaign or quit altogether. He has yet to announce the next steps in his campaign.
