This pop-cultural-based animated film has previously won multiple awards in the awards season, and this time it won the Golden Globe again, greatly increasing the possibility of reaching the Oscars, but at the same time it also raised questions about \u201cthe plot fan orientation\u201d and \u201crepop light art\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7890\" title=\"848f6cfa746ba4e25c95bd02a7a2b5e5u5\" src=\"http:\/\/forefrontnews.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/848f6cfa746ba4e25c95bd02a7a2b5e5u5.jpg\" alt=\"848f6cfa746ba4e25c95bd02a7a2b5e5u5\" width=\"2362\" height=\"1575\" \/><br \/>\n\u201cK-POP: Demon Hunters\u201d Brochure<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat kind of animation can lift up the little golden man?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film nominations include six films, including Hollywood\u2018s best-selling animated film last year, \u201cMad Men2\u201d, the same Disney-produced film, \u201cEarth Reporter\u201d, Netflix\u2018s most-played film, \u201cK-POP: The Demon Hunters\u201d, Japan\u2019s best-selling animated film, \u201cThe Ghost Slayer: Endless City Novel Chapter 1: Iwo Jima Reattacks\u201d, as well as two French animations, \u201cRainbow\u201d and \u201cHello, Am\u00e9lie Nothomb\u201d. In terms of number, American-produced animations are exactly 3:3 compared to non-American animations, but a careful analysis reveals that these six animations contain quite a lot of East Asian elements: \u201cK-POP: The Demon Hunters\u201d is a superhero fiction based on Korean culture; \u201cHello, Am\u00e9lie Nothomb\u201d is adapted from the childhood experiences of the famous Belgian writer Am\u00e9lie Nothomb in Japan, one of whose directors is also Asian.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter being ignored for many years, the global popularity of \u2018K-POP: The Demon Hunters\u2019 and \u2018Ghost Slayer\u2019 is forcing Oscar to think about what kind of animation can elevate the Little Gold Man.\u201d The Hollywood Reporter recently analyzed in detail how the mainstream Hollywood awards, represented by Oscar, are dealing with animation works other than American-style family gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, East Asian animated films, represented by Japan, Korea, and China, have emerged and repeatedly broken box office records, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which is the organizer of the Academy Awards, has been relatively slow in reacting and has not been able to catch the trend immediately. In fact, the Academy Awards did not set up the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature until 2002, and in these more than 20 years, the Academy Award judges\u2018 concept had long been established that \u201cexcellent animated films should be Disney\/Pixar\/Dream Factory-like family-friendly themes for young and old, producing exquisite computer animation works.\u201d Therefore, from \u201cToy Story\u201d to \u201cMagic Room,\u201d Disney and Pixar took the awards lightly, but also made this award increasingly less \u201cwatchable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From Family Content to Fan-to-Bounty<\/p>\n<p>The Academy didn\u2018t completely ignore non-American animation. It also awarded Japanese animation masters such as Miyazaki Shun\u2019s \u201cChinyo Chihiro\u201d and British clay animation \u201cSuper Invincible Dog: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit\u201d to foreign blockbusters. But overall, the Academy\u2018s international horizons weren\u2019t wide. Art-type animation from Europe or other Asian and African countries might win awards at the Anansi International Animation Film Festival, but when it came to the Academy, it was mostly just \u201caccompanying\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>And now, animated movies with strong fan orientation are presented before the Oscars with extremely high popularity and box office. For example, \u201cK-POP: Demon Hunt Girls,\u201d which portrays the girls\u2018 group as superheroes who sing during the day and fight monsters at night, is evaluated as an interesting graft between Korean style and the Japanese manga \u201cBeauty Girl Warrior\u201d setting. Although its humanistic depth and emotional appeal cannot be compared to those of Gibley and Pixar, its high popularity cannot be denied. Not only did it become the most viewed movie on the Netflix platform with 541 million hours of views, the theme song created by Korean musicians also entered the U.S. \u201cBillboard\u201d pop list, and even the animation industry\u2018s professional award \u201cAnnie Award\u201d gave it 13 nominations, showing that its influence has received multiple recognition.<\/p>\n<p>The global animation landscape is changing drastically<\/p>\n<p>In fact, in recent North American awards seasons, more and more non-American family-friendly animation works have been recognized, such as last year\u2018s Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, the Latvian independent animation \u201cCat and Cat\u2018s Fantasy Drift\u201d, 2024\u2019s \u201cWhat Life Do You Want to Live\u201d, 2023\u2019s puppet animation \u201cGilmo del Toro\u2018s Pinocchio\u201d, and others. The Academy Award is clearly also groping and adjusting &#8211; whether to stick to the early years\u2018 \u201cgood animation\u201d criteria, or favor more diverse subject matter techniques, more innovative ideas, or even approach a wider range of popular culture fans?<\/p>\n<p>In the Hollywood Reporter\u2018s view, the global animation landscape is undergoing a major change. \u201cFor example, the Chinese animation \u201cNazha\u2018s Devil Child Raging in the Sea,\u201d which did not apply for the Academy Awards, combined Pixar-style computer animation techniques with traditional Chinese mythological stories, has already garnered a huge global success of about $2.2 billion.
