According to the New York Times, SpaceX told its employees Wednesday that it would buy back some of the shares held by insiders. The deal would value SpaceX as a whole at about $800bn and the company is preparing for a possible public listing next year. In a letter to employees and other shareholders, Brett Johansen, SpaceX’s chief financial officer, said the company and its investors plan to offer $421 a share, a total of $2.56bn of shares were bought back from shareholders at almost double the previous internal price. The plan to buy back shares from employees would make SpaceX the world’s most valuable private company, surpassing OpenAI, an artificial intelligence company currently valued at about $500bn. If SpaceX goes public, it will be the largest IPO in history and an unprecedented wealth-creation bonanza for stocks.<\/p>\n
